Hi.

Welcome to my blog where I document my adventures in Kansas City!

A Saturday in Strawberry Hill (Kansas City, KS)

A Saturday in Strawberry Hill (Kansas City, KS)

It’s no secret that I think Strawberry Hill is one of the cutest neighborhoods in Kansas City and I love showing people the area! I wanted to put together an itinerary for a perfect Saturday on the Hill featuring some of my favorite spots. And if you are there on a Saturday, chances are you’ll see me in one of these stops along the way!

10am: Caffeinate at Splitlog Coffee Co (548 Central Ave). Order a Strawberry Hill Latte (when in Rome, ya know!) and a breakfast burrito if you’re hungry. My current favorite burrito is the sausage one with hot salsa. It’s divine!

11am: Walk down to Flagship Books (600 Ohio Ave), Strawberry Hill’s neighborhood book store! You’ll find a mix of new and pre-owned books (that look new if you ask me!) and you may even find your next favorite read!

12pm: Head to the patio at Breits Stein and Deli (412 N 5th St) - a must-visit Strawberry Hill establishment. Order some beer and Slivovitz, if you dare! You absolutely can not skip the Rueben here. It’s the best in town!

2pm: Check out the new not for profit Manor Records (401 N 6th St). This fun space is part record store, part record label, and part neighborhood bar that uses the profits from sales to support local musicians and the Strawberry Hill community.

4pm: This part of the itinerary turns into a bit of bar crawl but with so many fun spots in the area, it’s easy to keep the party going! Next on your list is Fat Matt’s Vortex (411 N 6th St) and if you like spooky haunts, this is the place for you! Originally built in the 1800’s, this building was a funeral home/crematorium in the 1900’s. The crematorium is still in the basement and apparently, so are the spirits of those cremated there! Order their signature grog and be open to the idea of experiencing something paranormal while you’re there!

6pm: Walk across the street for a good old fashioned dive bar (and my personal favorite in the area!). My grandparents met here in the 60’s while my grandpa was tending bar, so I am a little biased when I say it’s my favorite! The Easy Inn (322 N 6th St) has an iconic bathroom for selfies, domestic beer, and a shockingly great margarita. Plus the newly revamped patio is perfect this time of year.

7pm: Walk on over to The Mockingbird Lounge (204 Orchard St) in time for sunset - you won’t want to miss the view from the patio. The skyline glows gold as the sun starts to set and you will not find a better view in all of Kansas City. Order the Nachos or the pizza (the crust is naan bread!) or literally anything from the food menu - it is all good! The Mockingbird Margarita is great and they always have fun beer on draft. Really you can order anything from the drink menu and you’ll love it!
