What To Do During Quarantine: KC Trails

What To Do During Quarantine: KC Trails

Hope you are all staying safe and healthy! (How I have been starting every single email I have sent since this all began lol). I decided to start a recurring series on the blog for ideas on what to do during quarantine while still following the rules of social distancing! As you may know, I live alone so I have a lot of time on my hands to keep myself entertained! My favorite thing to do has been to explore the trails in the area. I put together a list of my favorites that are still open as of 4/22/2020.

  1. Swope Park Trails: The trails in Swope are extensive - it’s actually the 83rd biggest park in the US measuring at a whopping 1,800 acres. So plenty of room to get lost and explore! My dogs and I have a few trail heads that we love, but you really can’t go wrong. If you want an easy place to start, park by the “Go Ape” course and start on the paved road before heading into the woods.

  2. Jerry Smith Park: These is more of a prairie hike, but I love this one, too. It is pretty flat, so you can see so much of the city. There are always hawks flying around, and never any people. It really feels like you are on a private farm. And if you didn’t know, hawks are my good luck charm (truly see at least one a day), so I visiting a place where they are all over.

  3. Platte Falls Conservation Area : One of my new favorites. This is a huge piece of land that Platte County has preserved for public use. There are deer running around and a creek that runs through the entire property. I have never laughed as hard as I did when my dogs saw deer for the first time - it shocked them to their cores. So at the very least, go with your dog for a laugh.
