It’s time to highlight another batch of women owned businesses in Kansas City! GLENWOOD ANTIQUE MALL
This woman-owned business is near and dear to my heart! If you know anything about me, you know I love antiquing and thrifting and Glenwood Antique Mall is one of the best places in Kansas City to find truly one-of-a-kind treasures. The shop has recently been expanded and is now 45,000 square feet, so there are even more antique finds! If I am looking for something specific, Glenwood is always my first stop - they truly have something for everyone! Plus, the majority of dealers here are women as well. It's truly a must visit!
BLVD TAVERN
Under new ownership, BLVD Tavern in the Crossroads is entering a new era! Owners Grace Ryan and Derich Carlson are not new to the restaurant industry in Kansas City and it shows! The food is fresh and delicious, the drinks are creative, and the space is gorgeous. This is the perfect place for brunch with your friends, a dinner date, happy hour, or even a private party (they have the perfect space for it!). I am already planning a trip back to BLVD and it's only been 3 days since I was there last. I can't recommend it enough!
SUPER CRUNCH STUDIO
Owned by Kansas City marketing phenom, Danielle Lehman, Super Crunch Studio works with some of the best local businesses in town. Danielle and her team help their clients with branding, marketing strategy, website design, social media, PR, and content development to take their businesses to the next level. With clients like SERV, Chingu, Good Vets, Jim's Alley Bar, Aramark at Arrowhead and Kauffman Stadiums, and more, chances are you've already seen Super Crunch's work!
SIERRA WINTER JEWELRY
If you've ever met me in person, chances are I am wearing one of my Sierra Winter Jewelry pieces! The jewelry line is full of wearable statement pieces with subtle nods to Kansas throughout. A few of my current favorites are the Free Spirit necklace, the Happy Hour hoops, and the Sun Child earrings, but there truly isn't one piece that I don't love! Since recreational marijuana became legal in Kansas City, Missouri, dispensaries have been popping up all over town. But if you're a smoker with great taste, your options are limited…. Until now! Each piece is made by hand to compliment home décor (and clean easily!). HAPPY HABITAT
Karrie Dean created Happy Habitat out of a combination of her love for color, pattern, and textiles, curiosity and a family tradition of entrepreneurship. These throws are the perfect combination of those three ideals and they serve as functional art. They make the perfect housewarming gift, wedding present, or a "just because" gift to yourself. The throws are vibrant with a pattern to match any décor and they feel luxurious to the touch. Once you see (and touch!) a throw from Happy Habitat, it becomes the throw you never stop thinking about.
EMILY KATE’S BAKERY
Born out of a mother's love for her daughters with newly discovered gluten allergies, Emily Kate's Bakery set out to make gluten free treats that don't taste like you're missing out on the real thing. After hundreds of hours of recipe development, Emily Kate's has nailed it. I have tried a cake from Emily Kate's and it was delicious - even better than the full gluten cake we had that day as well! Their cinnamon rolls, biscuits, and cupcakes are my favorites, but I haven't tried a single thing I don't love! This is a small batch bakery and every single thing is baked to order for you. Just give them 72 hours and the gluten free treats of your dreams will be ready for you!
SUDS REFILLERY
Suds Refillery is a mother-daughter owned eco-conscious shop where you can refill your household supplies while reducing your single-use plastic consumption! You can purchase laundry soda, soap, toothpaste and mouthwash tabs, essential oils, shampoo and conditioner bars, dry shampoo, play-doh replacements, and more! This is the perfect place to celebrate Earth Day (Saturday, April 22). Suds will quickly become a regular visit for you when you see all the sustainable options they have in stock! HAVEN WELLNESS + SPA
Haven Wellness and Spa is a sanctuary focused on self-care with a holistic approach to wellness. Founder, Katie Brock, has truly created a haven for people to heal in a safe space. Her team is full of talented professionals with varying expertise to guide clients through their specific journey. HEALTH SUITE 110
Health Suite 110 is a primary care practice that provides medical care for a flat membership fee. They take on a limited number of patients, and cut out all middlemen (insurance companies), which allows them to keep costs low and services high in value. Owner Aimee Jones is the AJ behind AJ Modernist and she creates lightweight, nickel free" artwork for your ears!" These pieces are absolutely stunning and I have never seen anything like them! I am a huge fan of statement earrings, but they can be too heavy to wear often. Aimee has found a solution to that problem without sacrificing style. Whether you're a neutral gal, or live life in color, AJ has something for you! You can shop her jewels on Etsy or in person at Painted Tree Boutique. I have my eyes on the square rainbow-colored pair and the elongated rectangle style in just about every color. Swoon!
SHOP ANNIE AUSTEN
You probably already know Annie Austen, influencer extraordinaire based in KC, but did you know about her business Shop Annie Austen? It's the most darling collection of jewelry, accessories and home goods. The jewelry is made by her (and her brother!) and the home goods are often one of a kind, thrifted pieces. You can find her collections at Bella Patina during First Friday weekends, through her Instagram, or directly through her website. She is as sweet in real life as she seems online, so you'll just love buying from her!
THE COUNSELING COLLABORATIVE
Taken from their website, The Counseling Collaborative takes "a modern approach to counseling and wellness, founded by women, for women." Founded by Donna Washington and Kelsey Foss, The Counseling Co. focuses on creating a space where women feel comfortable and empowered. With expertise in postpartum anxiety and depression, pregnancy loss, mothering and parenthood, career challenges, boundary setting, self-acceptance, and more, these women are shining a light on the dark corners of mental health that many women don't feel comfortable discussing. These therapists are changing the lives of so many women in Kansas City!
ALYSSA BROADUS / LITTLE FIXATIONS
One of my favorite photographers in Kansas City is Alyssa Broadus aka Little Fixations. I have one of her prints of Green Lady Lounge and it's the most complimented piece of art in my house. Whether you are a royals fan, a Kansas City fan, or just love a good bar photo, Alyssa has something for you. When two Sadies get together, hair magic happens! Founded by Sadie Gourley and Sadie Rucker, American Honey is a hair salon in Mission that perfectly blends laid back and luxury. These women have created a space where their clients leave feeling like their best self. American Honey is new this year, but already making a big footprint in the hair Industry. Plus, the atmosphere in the salon can't be beat!
BLEACH BAE
Started by Abbey Kobylinski in her backyard in 2020, Bleach Bae has taken tie dye into the 21st century. Abbey has created a brand by perfecting the hand dying process and creating one of a kind sweats, vintage finds, and even an Eras Tour line for us Swifties (and it's as epic as it sounds!). The products make a fun addition to any wardrobe and they put your quarantine tie dye projects to shame! Follow her on IG to see all the latest creations!
SERVAES BREWING COMPANY
The women behind Servaes Brewing Company have created beer you truly cannot find anywhere else! With no flagship beers, you never know what you are going to find on tap here! Famous for their sour beer, Courtney Servaes has been known to put all sorts of things in her batches of beer - from pizza crust to an entire pumpkin pie! This is a must stop if you’re a sour beer lover or if you just want to see what Courtney has brewed up lately - I promise it’ll be something good!
LILY FLORAL DESIGNS
This Columbus Park gem is owned by two women who have made a massive name for themselves in the floral industry. What Betsy Ford and Lily Williams have created with Lily Floral Designs is astonishing. They have some of the most gorgeous designs in the floral industry (seriously, check out their Instagram here. You'll be blown away!) as well as the cutest one stop shop for gifts to go along with their flowers. These women are powerhouses and the future of Lily Floral Designs is bright! I recently visited their charming storefront and became obsessed. See behind the scenes of my visit here!
THE FACIAL BAR
The Facial Bar should be on your must-try list! The find your facial tool on their website is unlike anything I've seen in the industry before. It guides you though potential problem areas and your specific goal, and tells you the facial service that best fits those needs. I love that they eliminate the guess work that usually comes with booking a spa service! Owner Cecilia Smith has created a welcoming, gender-neutral space so that men and women can enjoy a facial without any discomfort. The Facial Bar not only focuses on skin, but also places an emphasis on charitable donations and supporting other local business. What more could you want?!
EARTHEN VESSEL
Jami Clark of Earthen Vessel has created a curated online shop full of handcrafted jewelry and curated home goods. This is the perfect shop to find something one of a kind - the jewelry is unique and the home goods are often vintage. Her Instagram is perfectly curated and it showcases her style so well. It's the perfect place to shop for a gift for someone you love - or just for yourself!
EFFING CANDLE CO.
These cheeky candles were created by Birdie Hansen after working at Anthropologie where she smelled and burned candles she wasn't impressed with. She created Effing Candle Co. to make affordable (but still luxury!) candles with the highest quality ingredients. With names like "Witchy Sh*t," "Head Bitch in Charge," and "Fir F*cks Sake," these wood wick candles make perfect gifts. The rave reviews speak for themselves - these candles are fragrant, long-lasting, and all around effing perfect.
LILAS CLAYGROUND
Owner Priscilla Butler started Lilas Clayground in 2019 to create earrings she could wear with unpierced ears. Now she handmakes all her jewelry in her apartment in Kansas City and it's for girlies with pierced ears, too! Made from acrylic or clay, these earrings are lightweight and inspire confidence in everyone who wears this, which was Priscilla's experience the first time she wore a pair of her earrings!
MAGGIE STIVERSON, REALTOR
A realtor in Missouri and Kansas, Maggie Stiverson specializes in residential real estate. She has expertise with first time buyers, land sales, and just about any other real estate need you may have. She has rave reviews from her clients - most of whom address her patience and willingness to go above and beyond to find them the property of their dreams. KES Studio, owned by Kathryn Snellen, is a boutique marketing firm in Kansas City with a client list full of some of the most notable businesses in Kansas City. One of my very favorite Instagram follows (and real life friend) is professional photographer, Anna Petrow. Her culinary work will have you drooling, her travel photos will have you planning your next trip, and if you're ever lucky enough to meet her, you'll want to be her friend immediately. She has a brand new website and her prints are some of my favorite pieces in my home!
TEN GALLON TOP
This female founded business is making a big splash in Kansas City! Ten Gallon Top offers custom hat bars where you can design your own hat at private parties, pop ups, or a private consultation. The hat options are stunning, but the custom creation you can come up with takes them to the next level. Such a fun party idea!
REDEEMING RADIANCE SKIN STUDIO
Founded by Kristin Watkins, RR Skin Studio is a cozy studio offering facials, waxing, brow services, and peels. Kristin is very passionate about skin and will customize the experience to meet exactly what you are looking for! Centrally located in midtown, this spa has everything you are looking for to treat yourself and transform your skin. They even host group events - sounds like the best addition to a bachelorette party!
FLOCKING GOOD DESIGNS
Owner of Flocking Good Designs, Lauren Lueck, is the Kansas City queen of custom! She can make just about any item customized/personalized and the quality is 10/10. I use her mesh zipper bags all summer long at the pool and have my eye on her new acrylic wine tumblers - I am obsessed! She has a permanent location at Painted Tree in Overland Park or she can ship anywhere!
PINK LIPPS COSMETICS
This clean cosmetic company is based in Kansas City, but their cult like following extends well beyond our city. Founded by Kenyata Gant, Pink Lipps brings together clean makeup and stunning packaging to create products that do exactly what they claim to do - which can be a rarity in the beauty industry!
EB & CO.
Founded by Emily Bordner, EB & Co. is an accessory boutique with locations throughout Kansas City. You can find jewelry, hair accessories, scarves, and more at affordable prices without sacrificing style. They even give a portion of all sales to New Hope, an organization that helps to improve the lives of those impacted by domestic abuse.
KC WINE CO.
This vineyard in Olathe was originally purchased as an expansion to Kirk and Julie Berggren's pumpkin patch until their daughter, Taylor, had another idea. There was a small vineyard on the property and the rest is history! Now one of the most popular drinking spots, KC Wine Co. has events throughout the year like Cider Fest, OKCtober Fest, Mutts & Merlot, and more. It's almost wine slush season, but in the meantime, head out to the winery for $5 Fridays - $5 pints of beer & cider, $5 glasses of wine and $5 pizzas.
VESTED COFFEE
One of my very favorite coffee shops in Kansas City, Vested Coffee was founded by Susan and Nolan to bring some of the best coffee in the world (shoutout Onyx) to KC. The staff is beyond helpful at both locations and they make you feel welcome the moment you walk in the door. My order is a cold brew with cream and honey and a sausage breakfast burrito. Whether you're looking for a place to work, read a book, or spend time with friends, Vested is for you. I can't recommend this place enough!
