Top 5 Series: Breweries in Kansas City
Okay, so between you and me, I don’t really have five favorite breweries in Kansas City. There are just too many great ones to choose from! These are my favorites lately but that is always changing!
Servaes Brewing Company - This women owned brewery has beer you truly can not find anywhere else! With no flagship beers, you never know what you are going to find on tap here! Famous for their sour beer, Courtney Servaes has been known to put all sorts of things in her batches of beer - from pizza crust to an entire pumpkin pie! This is a must stop if you’re a sour beer lover or if you just want to see what Courtney has brewed up lately - I promise it’ll be something good!
Casual Animal Brewing Company - Casual Animal is one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon in the Crossroads! The beer is amazing and there is truly something for everyone. My current favorites are “Peachable Moment” (a peach ale that perfect for Summer!) and “Gazoontight” (a guava-mango sour). One thing that sets Casual Animal apart is their “Local Motive” beer. Two dollars from every Local Motive sold goes to the current sponsored charity. It’s an easy way to give back while enjoying a cold one!
Stockyards Brewing Co. - Located in one of KC’s most historic buildings, Stockyards Brewing feels a bit like stepping back in time. The decor is reminiscent of Kansas City’s cattle heyday and the beer somehow tastes better surrounded by little pieces of history. The beer, on the other hand, is more modern! Offering everything from a Mexican lager (Cerveza Royale) to an Irish Style Red Ale (County Clare Irish Ale) to an “Easy-Drinkin’ Pale Ale” (Yard Sale Pale Ale), there is honestly something for everyone here. Sit at the bar and order a cold one!
Strange Days Brewing Company - This standout brewery is located in the River Market area and is the perfect place to cool off and rehydrate after a weekend spent at the farmer’s market. My favorite beer at the moment is the Natty Rice - a rice lager that is so refreshing you may “accidentally” drink a few too many. Great place to host a party or just grab a beer with friends!
City Barrel Brewing Company - This is my go to date spot because the food is great and so is the beer! My current favorite beers are “Hint O’ Cherry” (a golden cherry sour) and the staple “Rad AF” (a New England IPA). The Fancy AF Fries are a must for the table! And if you’re still hungry, order the street tacos, too. You really can’t go wrong!
